Process of four years of learning
Curriculum
Basic exercises, classroom reading, practical exercises.
Investigating the Japanese literature and language while elevating ability.
In this Department, students will mainly engage in "Japanese literature studies" that researches ancient to present-day literature and "Japanese language studies" that explore that language in general while simultaneously studying calligraphy and other forms of "language culture."
From their 1st through 3rd Years, students will study both literature and language while progressing through basic exercises, special lectures, classroom reading and practical exercises. From the second half of the 3rd Year, in addition to literature and language, they will work on preparing their graduate thesis under the instruction of diverse full-time staff, including that regarding language culture.
Rather than employ a course system, this Department has students autonomously select and take subjects in order to acquire the ability to think and express themselves of their own accord and nurture thinking methods, creativity, etc. that will benefit them in their day-to-day lives.

1st Year
Students will develop fundamental ability in language while absorbing a wide range of knowledge in common classes
2nd Year
Students will freely choose a discipline they have an interest in and commence specialized research in "special lectures" and "classroom reading
3rd/4th Year
Students will belong to seminars from the second half of their 3rd Year and pursue graduation thesis research covering individual themes
