International Exchange
Become A Globally Oriented Individual Through Exposure To
World Cultures And
Communication
Notre Dame Seishin University supports students’ study abroad by concluding study abroad agreements with
a
number of overseas universities, including sister schools operated by the Society of the Sisters of Notre
Dame de Namur, the founding parent organization of the university.
The period of study abroad is recognized as a period of enrollment, and up to 60 credits earned can be
recognized as graduation credits. The length of the study abroad period varies depending on the
destination
and the student’s wishes (from 3 months to 1 year).
In addition, in order to nurture as many global citizens as possible, we also offer scholarships for study
abroad and a language training program (about 3 weeks) that students can participate in during the summer
vacation.

Message from a former exchange student
At Fu Jen Catholic University, where I studied abroad, I was able to study a wide range of subjects such as cultural anthropology and American history while interacting not only with Taiwanese but also with students from other Asian countries and from Europe and the United States. I used English in the classroom and Chinese in my daily life, and I believe that the ability to learn Chinese while studying in English is a unique advantage of studying abroad in Taiwan.

Study abroad period: Approximately 10 months
Liverpool Hope University (Liverpool, UK)
The impetus for my exchange program came from my interest in the correlation between international issues and the media through the Model United Nations activities I began in my second year. The ideal environment at Liverpool Hope University, where I could major in two different fields at the same time from a very large number of degree courses, was the deciding factor, and I jumped into an overseas learning environment. When I first started studying abroad, I struggled with real English that I could not learn from a desk, and I was perplexed by the days that differed from my own sense of values. However, through dormitory life, volunteer activities, class discussions, and interaction with friends, I gradually became able to see fresh ways of thinking brought about by our differences. Being in a multinational environment, both inside and outside the university, was an experience that expanded my view of the world and my own possibilities for the future many times over.

Summer Overseas English Study Program
University of Victoria English Language Centre (Victoria, Canada)
I joined this program to improve my English skills. At first, I was anxious about conducting my daily life in English and could not speak to people on my own. However, as I chatted with the teachers and interacted in English with a wide variety of people at the activities in the program, I began to enjoy conversing in English. The three weeks were so intensive that I did not want to go back to Japan at the end of the program. I believe that not only did I improve my language skills, but also the cross-cultural experiences I had there led to my personal growth. I would like to continue learning English and do my best so that I can use my English skills in my work and travel.

I am studying Japanese dialectology, Japanese grammar theory, and contrastive linguistics while aspiring to become a Japanese language teacher. In the Japanese grammar theory class, I was able to gain knowledge of Japanese grammar that I did not know before. I believe that this knowledge will surely lead me to my dream.

Every time we discuss our research topics in weekly seminars, I realize the importance of teamwork and communication. Interaction with others always provides me with new stimuli and hints. I have come to realize this in many of my classes at Seishin, and I have become even more interested in my own research field.
