In Japanese Language and
Literature

Opens up new research perspectives in the three research fields of Ancient Medieval Literature, Modern and Contemporary Literature, and Japanese language studies. The University owns such rare books as the Kurokawa Collection and the Atsuo Masamune Collection, and has also established the Shigeru Sato Collection, which mainly contains books related to Japanese linguistics, such as lexicology and dialectology. The University has laid the foundation for opening up new areas of research in Japanese literature and Japanese language studies.

Based on the two research fields of Japanese literature and Japanese language studies, we offer relevant classes that help students acquire the religious and multifaceted nature of a Catholic university. By deepening specialized research, we nurture individuals who have the ability to play a central role in their respective fields of specialization.

Consists of four research fields of study - English Language and Literature, English Linguistics, International. Communication, and Practical Translation - and provides specialized classes related to Christian thought and English education. Students acquire advanced English language skills, in-depth specialized knowledge, and an international perspective to contribute to both local and international society.

Fosters researchers who can lead their respective fields of specialization in the areas of English language and literature, English linguistics, and international communication, as well as those who can contribute to academic and cultural exchange between Japan and other countries using English as an international language. Students learn mainly by assuming two career paths: researchers at institutions of higher education, etc., and professional workers with transferable skills.

in Socio-Cultural Studies

Cultivates insight to examine sociocultural phenomena and problem-solving skills through the pursuit of research themes and the acquisition of research methods in the two research fields of sociology and history. Students learn sociolinguistics, cultural anthropology, and other specialized related classes to develop a solid perspective that enables them to understand society and culture from multiple perspectives and overall.

Deepens specialized research by taking a systematic view of diverse issues related to human beings and human life.
Based on the Christian spirit and the tradition of liberal arts education, we view the three aspects of human activities - spiritual activities, physical maintenance activities, and cultural activities - and pursue their specific forms and systematics.
The master’s degree course cultivates advanced problemsolving skills, and the doctoral course cultivates advanced research skills.

in Human Development and Education
[Human Development Concentration, Clinical Psychology Concentration]

Aims to acquire expertise in mental development, education, and mental health. In the Human Development Course, students study development and highly specialized education. In the Clinical Psychology Course, students learn the basics and practice of clinical psychology, and as a graduate school for the training of clinical psychologists (Type 1 designation), we train “clinical psychologists”. In addition, if students have completed the courses required by ministerial ordinance at four-year universities, they can acquire the qualification to take the examination for the national qualification of “Certified Psychologist” by acquiring the prescribed classes in the Clinical Psychology Course.

in Food Science and Nutrition

Establishes research fields of nutrition management, nutritional science, and food science, and provides an environment for education and research from basic to applied and clinical aspects. Students engage in research on the mechanisms of health maintenance, prevention of lifestyle-related diseases, functionality of food components, and nutrition education with a focus on school-age children. It is possible to obtain a fulltime nutrition teacher’s license.

Pursues human-centered lifestyle studies from an integrated perspective in the four research fields of human society, lifestyle culture, lifestyle management, and the living environment. Based on collaboration among the four research fields, students acquire advanced and well-balanced knowledge and understanding across various fields, and are fostered to become researchers, professional staff, and teachers.

In Comprehensive Human Life Sciences

Conducts academic research on various issues related to human beings and human life while examining them from multiple perspectives and addressing a wide variety of problems. We have the three research fields of Mental Function Theory, Health and Nutrition Theory, and Lifestyle and Culture Theory. Students acquire the skills to engage in highly specialized work, such as researchers and specialized government officials.
