About NDSU
Message from the President and Chancellor

The roots of Notre Dame Seishin University can be traced back to 1924 when six American
missionaries of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, the founding parent organization, came to Japan to
engage in women’s education. The mission of the University is to respect the uniqueness of each student,
to recognize diversity, and to carry out in a tangible way the unique mission of every student. In
developing the potential of each individual, we emphasize the importance of providing an education that
is responsive to the needs of the society and world around us. In order to achieve this goal, we will
continue to further strive for the development of useful human resources by accumulating achievements in
active and proactive learning with an international network in mind through exchanges with our sister
schools on five continents, with classroom learning as the main axis of our efforts.
