Halloween Party/My Active Class in 2018

Halloween Party/My Active Class in 2018

When Corona hit, and we went online, one of the first things I thought was, “Oh, no! I won’t be able to have my usual Halloween Party this year!  And what about Christmas?”  Parties are a great way to experience a different culture: we dress up, play games in English, and learn some fun facts associated with the holidays.  Halloween is especially enjoyable because of the costumes and “trick or treating.”  It’s a chance for everyone to have a little fun after we have settled into the work and studying of the second semester.  So, how could we do this online?

Kate Bowes and I decided to have a Halloween Party with both of our classes together.  We tried to imagine an online party.  Well, everyone knows that we can change our Zoom backgrounds to create a different setting from where we actually are, so the students had a choice of wearing a costume, or choosing a Halloween background for themselves.  Some students did BOTH!  The result was a lot of fun!  We enjoyed looking at everyone’s Halloween windows, and then we made groups of four students, mixing Kate’s and my students together so they could play with some new people.  We made a Halloween board game, and everyone seemed to have a great time.  The class was over in no time ~ “Trick or treat!”
